Seongni daejeon seo jeoryo (Essentials of the Great Collection of Neo-Confucianism) (1993)
성리대전서절요(1993) · 性理大全書節要(1993)

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis work was compiled in 1538, the thirty-third year of King Jungjong of Joseon, by Kim Jeong-guk (1485-1541), who selected the necessary portions from the voluminous Seongni daejeon and edited them into four volumes. The original Seongni daejeon was compiled by forty-two scholars of Ming-dynasty China, including Hu Guang, bringing together the Neo-Confucian theories of the Song dynasty along with those of Yuan-dynasty scholars; imported early in the reign of King Sejong, it thereafter became required reading among Korean scholars. Having taken up the post of governor of Honam in 1538, Kim Jeong-guk consulted with the assistant official Kim Hoe-baek, and had the missing and insufficient characters carved to supplement the wooden movable type kept at the Naju-mok provincial office, and carried out the printing there. This work is highly valued both for having reorganised the Seongni daejeon - required reading for Joseon-period scholars - to suit Korean circumstances, and because it represents the rediscovery of a complete set at a time when almost none of the wooden movable-type editions produced by local officials under King Jungjong had survived the Japanese invasions of 1592-98.
