Three-story Stone Pagoda from Gangnaksa Temple Site, Gumi (Presumed)
(전)구미 강락사지 삼층석탑 · 傳 龜尾 江洛寺址 三層石塔

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis pagoda had collapsed at an old temple site traditionally known as Gangnaksa Temple. It was moved and restored in the front yard of the Seonsan-gun county office, North Gyeongsang Province, in 1968, then moved again to its present location in October 1980. The pagoda consists of a three-storey body set on a single-tier foundation and topped with a finial. Each corner of the foundation is carved to resemble a pillar, and a single pillar shape is also carved at the centre of each face. The body of each storey is formed from one stone for the main body and one for the roof stone, with pillar shapes carved at each corner of the main body. The undersides of the roof stones are finished neatly with five tiers of supports on every storey, and the sloping surface that sheds rainwater is straight but curves slightly upward at the four corners. The finial at the top was restored in 1980, when the pagoda was moved, based on the design of stone pagodas of the same period. Judging from the degree of upward curve of the roof stones, the number of support tiers underneath, and the detailed style of each part, the pagoda is thought to date from around the ninth century, during the Unified Silla period.
