An Cheo-sun (1492–1534), styled Saje, was appointed magistrate of Gurye in the thirteenth year of King Jungjong (1518); as he was about to leave for his new post, colleagues and friends, reluctant to part with him, composed farewell poems and essays which were later gathered into a single album. An Cheo-sun was a ninth-generation descendant of An Hyang, who first introduced Neo-Confucianism to Korea during the Goryeo period, and he held such posts as censor of the Yemungwan (Office of Royal Decrees), scholar of the Hongmungwan (Office of Special Advisers), and magistrate of Gurye. This album of essays was compiled after An Cheo-sun's death, in the thirty-sixth year of King Seonjo (1603), together with a postscript by Kim In-hu, and was rebound in the twenty-ninth year of King Sunjo (1829) by Jo In-yeong at the Jeolla Provincial Office. It runs to fifty pages, beginning at page 3, and at the end of the album the names, pen names, and official posts of twenty-four eminent scholars are briefly recorded. It is a valuable resource for academic research into the political and intellectual history and the bibliography of the mid-Joseon period.
