Gani byeogonbang is a medical text compiled at the king's command by court physicians Park Sun-mong, Park Se-geo and others during the reign of King Jungjong of Joseon, gathering prescriptions for the treatment of onyeok, a febrile epidemic disease. When yeoyeok, an infectious fever, spread throughout Pyeongan-do in the autumn of 1524, the 19th year of King Jungjong, the prescriptions needed for treatment were compiled into a book, translated into Hangeul, and widely distributed in 1525, the 20th year of King Jungjong. However, the original first edition does not survive; what remain are a later edition printed with eulhaeja movable type in 1578, the 11th year of King Seonjo, and another printed with hullyeondogam type in 1613, the 5th year of King Gwanghaegun. This particular copy is the 1578 reprint from the reign of King Seonjo, and, lacking tone marks (bangjeom), it is valuable both as material for the study of 16th-century Korean and for the history of medicine.
