Daejang illamjip (Essentials of Buddhist Sutras)
대장일람집 · 大藏一覽集

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis is a compilation of key passages selected from the Tripitaka, the Buddhist canon, by Chen Shi of Song China, printed in the early Goryeo period, in the mid-thirteenth century. The surviving volume is an incomplete set containing only the first fascicle, in three parts (top, middle and bottom), covering a total of seventeen chapters from the "Seonwangpum" to the "Beonnoepum". The names of the woodblock carvers Jonsik and Jeongan, among others, are engraved at the bottom of the centre margin of each page. In format the book retains the style of Song-dynasty editions: the centre margin is narrow, with a thin double black fish-tail motif, as also seen in twelfth-century editions such as the Neungeomgyeong (Surangama Sutra) and the Seonmun yeomsong. The calligraphic style likewise follows both the Song editions and the Goryeo editions that were popular in the mid-thirteenth century. Printed in the early Goryeo period, in the mid-thirteenth century, the Daejang illamjip is a valuable document believed to be the oldest surviving copy of its kind in Korea.
