Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis celadon prunus vase with inlaid plum, bamboo, and willow design and an inscription of the poem "Jangjinju" is a rare example among celadon prunus vases decorated with inlaid poetic text. Willow, bamboo, and plum blossom were each carved in two places, and between them four tablet-shaped (wipae) cartouches were arranged. Within these, the poem's text was carved in a vigorous, energetic hand, and in an empty space between willow branches on one side, the title of the poem, "Jangjinju" (將進酒), was inlaid in black. The poem begins in the tablet cartouche to the left of the title and continues around the vessel to the left. The text inscribed on each tablet reads: ① 琉璃鐘琥珀濃小樽酒 滴眞珠紅烹龍 ② 鳳玉脂泣羅屛繡幕圍 香風吹龍笛擊鼓皓 ③ 齒歌細腰舞況是靑春 日將暮桃花亂落女紅 ④ 雨勸君終日酩酊醉酒 不到劉伶墳上土 — verses from "Jangjinju", a poem by Li He (李賀, 790–816), known in Tang-dynasty China as the "poet-ghost" (詩鬼). The glaze has a soft lustre; areas that oxidised locally show a greenish tinge, and a network of crackle covers the entire surface. The foot was formed by rounding out the inside of an otherwise flat base, and traces of sand used as spacers during firing remain on the bottom.
