Gyehoedo Including Jeong Sa-sin is a set of six paintings depicting gyehoe — gatherings held by officials as a form of mutual association, recorded in paintings known as gyehoedo — in which Jeong Sa-sin (1558–1619), a civil official under King Seonjo, took part as a government officer between 1583 and 1587. The six works are Goewonjangbang-gyehoedo (槐院長房契會圖, c. 1583), Bongsan-gyehoedo (蓬山契會圖, 1583), Taesang-gyehoedo (太常契會圖, 1585), Yejo-nanggwan-gyehoedo (禮曹郎官契會圖, 1586), Hyeongjo-nanggwan-gyehoedo (刑曹郎官契會圖, 1586) and Miwon-gyehoedo (薇垣契會圖, 1587). Among these, Bongsan-gyehoedo, Taesang-gyehoedo and Hyeongjo-nanggwan-gyehoedo show a development from the early sixteenth-century tradition of asymmetrical landscape composition associated with the An Gyeon school, with an increased separation between the depicted elements. Goewonjangbang-gyehoedo and Yejo-nanggwan-gyehoedo reflect the characteristics of the Seoho-school type of outdoor gyehoedo, while Miwon-gyehoedo was produced in the new style of gyehoedo depicting government offices that emerged around the 1570s. Because the dates of production and the participants are clearly established, and because the paintings reflect the painting style of the 1580s, this set has high academic and art-historical value; as a group of several gyehoedo in which the same individual took part, it is also of great significance as source material.
