Five-story Stone Pagoda of Dogapsa Temple, Yeongam
영암 도갑사 오층석탑 · 靈巖 道岬寺 五層石塔

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThe Five-story Stone Pagoda of Dogapsa Temple, Yeongam, had lost its lower stylobate and survived only as a single stylobate topped by the five-storey pagoda body and finial stone; however, during an excavation of the temple grounds conducted by the Mokpo National University Museum from 1995 onward, the lower stylobate was discovered, and in February 2002 the pagoda was restored, in front of the present Daeungjeon Hall, as a five-storey stone pagoda with a double stylobate, now standing 5.45 m tall. Judging from features of its carving and structural technique, it is presumed to date from the early Goryeo period; each of its components survives intact, and the pagoda is notable overall for its well-balanced ratio of diminishing storeys and its stable, harmonious form.
