Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krOrdination Platform of Ansimsa Temple, Wanju was built sometime between the mid-17th century and 1759 as a reliquary stupa enshrining a tooth relic and a robe of the Buddha, both regarded as sari, sacred relics. The central relic stupa (176 cm tall), the four guardian deity statues (110-133 cm tall), and the stone structures forming its broad square platform base all display exceptionally accomplished craftsmanship. In particular, the carving of the lotus and lattice patterns on the face stones of the single-tier stairway highlights decorative refinement and delicacy, achieving outstanding formative beauty; the carving of the guardian statues likewise shows highly sophisticated, richly voluminous treatment of armour and bodily detail. A record of the platform's construction survives on the nearby Stele Recording the History of Ansimsa Temple, a Tangible Cultural Heritage of Jeonbuk State. The Ordination Platform was separated out from "Ansimsa Stairway and Stupas", designated a Tangible Cultural Heritage of Jeonbuk State in 1984, with only the "Ansimsa Stairway" element elevated to treasure status.
