Yongbieocheonga (Song of Dragons Flying in Heaven), Volumes 8, 9, and 10
용비어천가 권8, 9, 10 · 龍飛御天歌 卷八, 九, 十

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThe Yongbieocheonga is both the first text recorded in the newly invented Hunminjeongeum script after its creation, and, together with the Worin cheongangjigok, is regarded as a representative work of akjang, or court ritual song, literature of the Joseon period, making it important material for research into the Korean language and bibliography of King Sejong's reign. The copy held by Keimyung University comprises three of the work's original ten volumes, Volumes 8 to 10. Its typeface was carved in the Songseolche style of the Chinese calligrapher Zhao Mengfu, which was popular in the early Joseon period, and the centre fold of its pages follows the early-Joseon format of heukgu, a black border printed down the fold, with naehyang heugeomi, an inward-pointing black fish-tail mark, a feature suggesting that it is an original first edition. However, since there are several miscarved characters in the sequence of chapters and traces of correction, it appears to have been printed after the woodblocks of the first edition had been revised.
