광주 자운사 목조아미타여래좌상 및 복장유물 · 光州 紫雲寺 木造阿彌陀如來坐像 및 腹藏遺物

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krAn inscription found among the relics recovered from inside the statue records that the Wooden Seated Amitabha Buddha of Jaunsa Temple was repaired and regilded in 1388, showing that it must have been made before that date. Its carving is natural and its bearing elegant, with well-proportioned form giving it a serene, rounded appearance — qualities that reveal outstanding artistic accomplishment. It belongs to the same lineage as a group of wooden seated Buddha images generally thought to have been made toward the end of the twelfth century, including the Wooden Seated Amitabha Buddha of Gaeunsa Temple made in 1276, the Wooden Seated Amitabha Buddha of Suguksa Temple, and the Wooden Seated Amitabha Buddha of Bongnimsa Temple in Hwaseong. Quantity: one Buddha statue; ten items of printed and manuscript material (three printed texts, three dharani sutras, four dedicatory and repair inscriptions); 52 textiles; ten metal and other objects. Dimensions: Buddha statue — overall height 87 cm, shoulder width 38 cm.
