A coloured manuscript atlas containing maps of the various counties and districts of Jeolla-do in the late Joseon period. The specific date of production can be inferred from the appearance of the name "Ilsin" in place of "Namwon." "Ilsin" was the name briefly used when Namwon's status as a county was downgraded, from 1739 (the 15th year of King Yeongjo) to 1750 (the 26th year of King Yeongjo), so the atlas is presumed to have been made between 1739 and 1750. The atlas is composed of seven volumes in total. Volumes 1 through 6 contain maps of the 53 counties and districts of Jeolla-do, excluding the three counties and districts of the Jeju Island region—Jeju, Daejeong and Jeongui—while volume 7 contains a "Complete Map of Jeolla-do," a "Map of Left Jeolla-do," and a "Map of Right Jeolla-do (Udo)." Seals reading "Bibyeonsa" are stamped on the "Map of Naju" in volume 1, the "Map of Muju-bu" in volume 3, the "Map of Gwangju" in volume 6, and the back of the "Complete Map of Jeolla-do" in volume 7, showing that this was a map kept and used by the Bibyeonsa. The marginal notes on each map record basic information such as the distance to Seoul and to the provincial government office, civilian households, population, cultivated land (jeon-gyeol), and tax grain (segok). As a Bibyeonsa map produced systematically by the central government to grasp local conditions, it holds great historical and academic value.
