An atlas containing maps of the counties and districts of the Chungcheong-do region in the late Joseon period. It is a coloured manuscript, presumed to have been produced during the reigns of King Yeongjo and King Jeongjo. Seals reading "Bibyeonsa" (Border Defence Council) are stamped on the complete map of Chungcheong-do in volume 3 and on the back of the map of Muneui in volume 5, showing that it was a map kept and used by the Bibyeonsa. The atlas is composed of six volumes in total, containing two sheets of complete maps of Chungcheong-do and 67 sheets of county and district maps. The county and district maps are drawn on a grid of 1-ri squares, while the provincial maps are drawn on a grid of 10-ri squares. Meanwhile, some maps—12 sheets in volume 4 and 16 sheets in volume 6—are not grid maps but take the form of traditional pictorial county maps. The marginal notes on the maps record detailed information such as the distance to the capital, civilian households, the male and female population, the area of cultivated fields and paddies, tax grain, military levies, granaries, post stations, ferry crossings, and townships and villages. As a Bibyeonsa map produced systematically by the central government to grasp local conditions, it holds great academic value.
