윤순거 초서 무이구곡가 · 尹舜擧 草書 武夷九曲歌

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis cursive-script rendering of the "Song of the Nine Bends of Wuyi" (武夷九曲歌) is a masterpiece by Dongto Yun Sun-geo (1596–1668). Its generous composition and swift brushwork link it to the style of Bongnae Yang Sa-eon (1517–1584), a celebrated master of cursive script in the sixteenth century, while its rounded strokes, maintained with a centred brush tip (jungbongse), also connect it to the wild cursive script (gwangcho) of the Tang-dynasty monk Huaisu (active in the eighth century), a style that Yang Sa-eon himself had likewise pursued. This style marked a new development in the large-character cursive script of the seventeenth century, and the work is notable for having had a considerable influence on the cursive style of the eighteenth century. The paper itself is also the largest example among mid-Joseon calligraphic works of the seventeenth century.
