Daeungbojeon Hall is the main worship hall of Yongjusa Temple. Although it has undergone several repairs, it retains its original appearance well, apart from the exterior dancheong (traditional decorative colour painting). It has three bays on the front and three bays on the side, with a hipped-and-gabled roof and a dapo-style bracket system, clearly showing the characteristics of 18th-century Buddhist hall architecture. The tall platform built of jangdaeseok (long dressed stones), the square foundation stones with circular column seats, the roof's chwidu (owl-tail ridge-end ornaments) and yongdu (dragon-head ornaments), and the yangseong plastering (decorative ridge-line finishing) all reflect the elevated status befitting a neungchimsachal, a temple charged with tending a royal tomb. The construction method and carving style of the bracket sets display the characteristics of the period when the hall was first built, and the patterns and carvings of the altar and the canopy above the Buddha's seat, the dragon carvings on the anchogong (bracket supports) and on the gwihandae and chungnyang beams, and the dancheong, all harmonise with the building to lend solemn dignity to the hall. The master carpenter of Daeungbojeon Hall was Muneon, a monk of Cheongwansa Temple in Jangheung, and the master dancheong painter was Mingwan; both were among the finest monk-craftsmen of their era.
