As the ground in front of Daeungjeon Hall of Daedunsa Temple, Gumi, slopes downward, a tall stone retaining wall was built along the front, with a granite staircase set in the middle of it. The platform is built of jangdaeseok (long dressed stones), and cylindrical columns stand on natural stone foundation stones throughout. The building has three bays on the front and three bays on the side, with a hipped-and-gabled roof, and is a typical dapo-style building of the Joseon period. Octagonal hwaljus (auxiliary support posts) stand at the four corners of the roof. The bracket sets supporting the roof are sturdy yet already show the beginnings of ornamentation, clearly illustrating the characteristics of buildings from the 17th and 18th centuries. The coffered ceiling and other structural features, the delicate carved forms of the canopy above the Buddha's seat inside, and the dancheong patterns presumed to date from the time of construction are all well preserved.
