Chehwajeong Pavilion, Andong
안동 체화정 · 安東 棣華亭
Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krChehwajeong Pavilion's historical value is evident from the many poem boards (sipan) put up by the numerous poets and literati who visited it, and its layout with an ondol (underfloor-heated room) in the centre is a regional feature. The window-and-door front of the ondol room spans four kan: the two central kan share a single door frame (muneolgul), with a nunkkopjigi-chang — a small window that can itself be opened within the window — set in the middle, while the doors on either side open outward to left and right and can be folded back over the central two-kan bunhap (folding door), which is fitted with a deulgeolgae, a hook device allowing the door to be lifted and hung up. Fitting a nunkkopjigi-chang in a pavilion is itself rare, but the type of bunhap door in which leaves opened from both sides overlap in the middle and are operated by a deulgeolgae hook is an extremely rare type.
