Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krGangneunghyanggyo's Dongmu (east hall) and Seomu (west hall) are each five-bay buildings that fill the left and right sides of the front courtyard of Daeseongjeon Hall, the main shrine hall, and extend as far as its side walls. In the Dongmu and Seomu, the carefully made sarongchang (a fine mesh-pattern lattice window), the dongja-daegong (a short king-post strut set on a pillow-shaped base), and the finely carved, roundly curled boaji brackets all show that early building techniques have been faithfully carried on. The jeollang (corridor building) of Gangneunghyanggyo takes the unusual form of a long gallery built horizontally across the front of Daeseongjeon Hall. This is thought to be an earlier form that predates the samun (three-gate) arrangement later standard in Confucian schools, and since its repair in 1721 - recorded in the Jeollang Repair Record - it has come down to the present with little change, giving it historical value.
