Ancient Tombs in Gusan-dong, Gimhae
김해 구산동 고분군 · 金海 龜山洞 古墳群

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThese tombs stand on the south-western slope of Bunsan, north-east of Gimhae, between 100 and 500 m north-east of the Tomb of Queen Heo, Consort of King Suro. Two tombs survive today: one is very large, and the other remains only about half intact. Inside each, a burial chamber was built to hold the coffin, then covered with earth heaped up to form a round mound — a stone-chamber tomb with a corridor entrance (gulsik dolbang mudeom). Only two tombs have been confirmed so far, but it is thought that more originally existed here. The relics recovered are not sufficient on their own to establish the precise character of the tombs, but judging from their structure they are considered to be among the latest tombs known in the Gimhae region. As corridor-style stone-chamber tombs are relatively uncommon in the lower Nakdonggang River basin, and as these examples lie within the city of Gimhae, once the centre of Gaya, they provide important material for studying the tombs of this area and the history of Gaya.
