Mansion Site in Seongdong-dong, Gyeongju
경주 성동동 전랑지 · 慶州 城東洞 殿廊址

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis is the site of a building from the Unified Silla period. In 1937, during safety works on the embankment of the Bukcheon Stream, an earthen platform was discovered; thinking it to be the site of an old temple, part of it was excavated. An area of about 2,000 pyeong (roughly 6,600 m²) was excavated, uncovering the sites of six halls, six long corridors thought to be covered walkways, two gates and three walls; in addition, two drainage facilities built of tile and brick, and one well site, were identified. The relics unearthed included roof tiles and vessels; based on the structure of the site and the relics found, it appears to be a building site from the Unified Silla period, though the nature of the building is unknown. However, judging from the layout and structure of the buildings, it is thought to have been a royal palace or government office. Note: the official name was changed from Gyeongju Seongdong-ri Mansion Site to Gyeongju Seongdong-dong Mansion Site, as announced on 28 July 2011.
