Ancient Tombs in Singi-ri, Yangsan
양산 신기리 고분군 · 梁山 新基里 古墳群

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThese tombs lie south of the Bukjeong-ri tombs in Yangsan, separated from them by a shallow valley. Tombs built at a later date cluster in the higher ground, while those built earlier cluster in the lower ground, mirroring the same distribution seen at Bukjeong-ri. In 1990, around thirty tombs were excavated; only Tomb No. 1 was a large tomb, all the rest being small. Among these, the tombs on higher ground matched the Bukjeong-ri tombs in both structure and the artifacts recovered from them. Notably, a jar coffin -- a burial in a large earthenware jar, of a type not previously seen here -- was also discovered. Much of the pottery among the excavated artifacts shares features with pottery from the later phase of the large tombs at Bukjeong-ri and in the Gyeongju area. The Singi-ri tombs are Silla tombs built between the sixth and seventh centuries and form an important body of evidence for research into cultural exchange between Gaya and Silla.
