Fortress in Bukbu-dong, Yangsan
양산 북부동 산성 · 梁山 北部洞 山城

This is a stone fortress built near the summit of Dongsan Hill, 195 m above sea level. Today both the fortress walls and ramparts survive only in a destroyed and collapsed state. The exact date of its construction is not known, but it is believed to have first been built during the Silla period to block Japanese people attempting to invade the capital, Gyeongju, by way of the Nakdonggang River. It occupies a fine vantage point, with the townscape of Yangsan spread out below and the Nakdonggang River visible in the distance. Although it survives only in ruins, it provides important evidence for understanding the scale and structure of the fortress at the time it was built. To the north-east of the fortress stands Singi-ri Fortress, similar to this one, and together the two form a pair of twin fortresses. Nearby are an ancient tomb cluster and the Yangsan Shell Mound, suggesting that this area was an important site during the Silla period.
