Kiln Site in Ssangbuk-ri, Buyeo
부여 쌍북리 요지 · 扶餘 雙北里 窯址

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis is a Baekje-period kiln site in Ssangbuk-ri, Buyeo County, where earthenware vessels and roof tiles were fired; it was discovered in May 1941 during construction of a town-planning road in Buyeo. At the time of discovery the kiln was still buried, so its exact form is not fully clear, but it measured roughly 4 m in length, 135 cm in width and 90 cm in height. About 3 cm survived below the chimney section, and the firebox area was never identified. The front of the kiln was subsequently cut away when the road in front of the site was completed, and the kiln site is now protected within a cement-built chamber. Large numbers of earthenware and roof-tile fragments have been found both around this kiln site, which stands within a pine forest, and in the cultivated land beyond the ridge, suggesting that the site once extended over a wider area than is currently recognised. Although only part of the kiln remains today, it is of great significance as the sole surviving earthenware and roof-tile kiln site within Buyeo-eup.
