Ancient Tombs in Naesan-ri, Goseong
고성 내산리 고분군 · 固城 內山里 古墳群

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThese are Gaya-period tombs gathered on low hills and level ground overlooking the coast, set against Seongsan hill in Donghae-myeon, Goseong County. It is said that more than 100 tombs once stood here, but only around 60 remain today. About 40 have earthen mounds roughly 10 metres in diameter, and around 20 have mounds of 15 metres or more. The interior structures are vertical pit-style stone-chamber tombs (suhyeolsik seokgwakmyo), following the form typical of the Gaya region. Hard-fired stoneware and ironware have been excavated, and fragments of grey-blue hard-fired stoneware collected nearby suggest the site dates to around the sixth century. It is regarded as the location of a power that guarded the gateway to Gojaguk, mentioned in the Samguk sagi, and to Sogaya.
