Ancient Tombs in Seoak-dong, Gyeongju
KOGL Type 4Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.kr

This refers to four large tombs situated on the hill directly behind the Tomb of King Muyeol in Seoak-dong, Gyeongju. All the tombs are round in shape, with no other structures around them. Some of the retaining stones once placed around the edges of the mounds remain exposed, all made of roughly broken stone, which sets them apart from the tombs of the Daereungwon Ancient Tombs area, most of which use river stones. The internal structure is presumed to be a stone-chamber tomb entered through a horizontal passage. Many smaller tombs of the same type are scattered around these four. The tombs lie along a ridge running southwest from Seondosan Mountain, and taking into account the mountain behind and the ridges across the valley to the east and west, it is clear that their siting was shaped by pungsu-jiri, the traditional geomantic principles for choosing an auspicious location. As to the occupants, it has been suggested that the first tomb may be that of King Beopheung, the second that of King Jinheung, the third that of King Jinji, and the fourth that of King Munheung.
