This is a stone mountain fortress on Yeonhwasan Mountain behind the Sageun market site in Hasan-ri, Hamyang-gun, Gyeongsangnam-do. It was the site of Sageun Station, the central post station overseeing fourteen postal routes across Gyeongsang-do during the Joseon period. The exact date of construction is not known, but given the scale of the fortress and the fact that this area was contested between Silla and Baekje, it is presumed to have been built during the Three Kingdoms period. The fortress has partially collapsed but is relatively well preserved. It has a circumference of about 1,218 m and follows the shape of the Korean letter "ㅏ", built to match the terrain of Yeonhwasan Mountain. The walls were neatly built to a height of about 5 m using squared dressed stones and natural stones laid in a staggered pattern, with a base as much as 5 m wide. This mountain fortress was a strategic hub linking the Yeongnam and Honam regions, and, with cliffs formed by the Namgang River on three sides, it was a strategic position that played an important role in blocking Japanese pirate raids aimed at the grain-producing plains of Honam.
