Historic SiteSilla · 154

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis is the tomb of King Ilseong (r. 134–154), the seventh king of Silla. The king repelled the Malgal people who invaded the northern frontier, encouraged agriculture by expanding farmland and building embankments, and discouraged extravagance by forbidding commoners to use gold, silver and precious stones. The royal tomb is a round earthen mound 5.3 m high and 15 m in diameter. Its base is edged with kerbstones of natural stone, and inside is a stone chamber tomb with a horizontal entrance passage. The two-tiered stone terrace in front of the tomb was built recently to protect the site.
