Tomb of King Jeonggang, Gyeongju
경주 정강왕릉 · 慶州 定康王陵

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis is the tomb of King Jeonggang (r. 886–887), the 50th king of Silla and second son of King Gyeongmun. King Jeonggang succeeded his elder brother, King Heongang, ascending the throne in the seventh month of 886, but died of illness in the seventh month of 887, having reigned for barely a full year. The tomb is a round earthen mound, its base protected by three tiers of stones, of which only the lowest tier projects slightly outward. In front of the tomb stands a stone platform bearing a small stone table for offerings. The tomb's structure is the same as that of King Heongang's tomb. However, a 1993 investigation of the interior of King Heongang's tomb found that its structure and the artefacts recovered were of a style predating the 8th century, differing considerably from the 9th century in which these kings actually reigned. The tomb's official designation was renamed from "Silla Tomb of King Jeonggang" to "Tomb of King Jeonggang, Gyeongju" on 28 July 2011.
