This is a well that stood at the house of the Silla general Kim Yu-sin. It was built by stacking granite blocks like bricks, and this area is presumed to be the site of the general's house. It is said that when General Kim Yu-sin, after long periods at the battlefront, returned home and then had to set out again for war, he passed in front of his own house without even looking at his family, had water drawn from the well, drank it on horseback, and said, "The taste of our house's water is just as it was," before leaving. An excavation in 1993 investigated an area extending 70 m in every direction around Jaemaejeong Well. The well is 5.7 m deep, with its widest point measuring 1.8 m and the diameter of its floor 1.2 m; it was built of stones dressed to resemble bricks. Beside the well stands a stele pavilion, inside which is a stone monument written by Yi Man-un in 1872, the ninth year of King Gojong of Joseon.
