This is the house where Jeon Bong-jun (1855–1895), a leader of the Donghak Peasant Revolution, once lived. Born into a fallen aristocratic family, Jeon Bong-jun joined the Donghak faith in 1890, the 27th year of King Gojong, and was appointed leader (jeopju) of the Donghak congregation in the Gobu region by Choe Si-hyeong, the second Grand Master of Donghak. He organised farmers and Donghak followers to resist the tyranny of corrupt officials and led the Donghak movement. This old house was built in 1878, the 15th year of King Gojong. It is a thatched-roof, south-facing house with a main hall four bays wide and one bay deep. From east to west it is arranged in a straight line as kitchen, main room, upper room and end room, a layout that differs in orientation from the typical farmhouse structure of Korea's southern regions. The name was changed from "Site of Jeon Bong-jun's Old House" to "Historic Site Related to Jeon Bong-jun, Jeongeup" by notification on 28 July 2011.
