This is the site of the central temple that stood during the period when Baekje's capital was at Buyeo (538–660). During excavation, a roof tile from the lecture hall site was found bearing the inscription "Taepyeong Year 8, Mujin, Jeongnimsa, Daejang-dangcho" (太平八年 戊辰 定林寺 大藏唐草), showing that the temple was known as Jeongnimsa by 1028, the nineteenth year of King Hyeonjong of Goryeo. This suggests that in the Goryeo period a new building, called Daejangjeon Hall, was erected on top of the Baekje-period temple's lecture hall. The main buildings of Jeongnimsa are arranged along a single north–south axis running through the middle gate, the five-storey stone pagoda, the main hall and the lecture hall, the whole enclosed by a covered corridor. Unusually, however, the corridor surrounding the centre of the temple complex is not square but forms a trapezoidal plan, wider at the northern end. The pond in front of the middle gate, revealed during excavation, has since been restored, and a building to house and protect the seated stone Buddha was constructed in 1993. The five-storey stone pagoda from the Baekje period and the seated stone Buddha from the Goryeo period both survive. Excavated relics include decorative roof tiles from both the Baekje and Goryeo periods, as well as a Baekje inkstone, earthenware, and clay Buddha figures.
