Distributed on the eastern slope of the western bank of Musimcheon Stream, which flows from southeast to northwest across the city of Cheongju. A survey identified 107 tombs, of which 106 are pit tombs dug directly into the soil, and one is a stone chamber tomb with a burial chamber and access passage entered through a horizontal corridor. The pit tombs are scattered across the whole hillside, and their mounds have been almost entirely worn away, leaving little trace. Excavated relics include various types of earthenware, ornaments such as jade, weapons of iron such as swords and axes, horse trappings, and other items such as spoons. Armour was found in Pit Tomb No. 90-1, drawing particular attention as it provides an actual example of Baekje iron armour. The Sinbong-dong tombs were not built in a single period but accumulated over a considerable span of time, and can broadly be dated as Baekje tombs of the 4th–5th centuries. Sinbong-dong lay on Baekje's eastern frontier, and the site has yielded large quantities of horse trappings and weapons not found at other sites, making it valuable material for the study of Baekje history. The stone chamber tomb is also valued for comparison with the earliest Baekje stone chamber tombs of the Seoul area and those of the Gongju area.
