Tomb of General Yun Gwan, Paju
파주 윤관장군묘 · 坡州 尹瓘將軍墓

This is the tomb of Yun Gwan (?–1111), a civil official of the mid-Goryeo period. He passed the civil service examination under King Munjong of Goryeo (r. 1046–1083), and in the 9th year of King Sukjong (1104) was appointed commander of the military camp for the northeastern frontier, fighting the invading Jurchen, though he was defeated. He subsequently organised a special military unit known as the Byeolmuban, and after conquering the Jurchen in the 2nd year of King Yejong (1107), built nine fortresses. The exact location of Yun Gwan's tomb was long unknown, but in the 23rd year of King Yeongjo of Joseon (1747) his descendants asserted the present site to be his tomb, and it was officially recognised in the 40th year of King Yeongjo (1764). Around the Tomb of General Yun Gwan stand a stele and a stone lantern erected in later periods. His spirit tablet is enshrined together with King Yejong's, and he is also venerated at Sungeuijeon Shrine, which honours King Taejo of Goryeo and meritorious subjects of loyalty and righteousness.
