A yoji (kiln site) refers to a kiln where pottery, roof tiles and vessels were fired. It is located on a hill to the right as one enters Namsongjeong Village, to the south-west of Wolchulsan Mountain. Two kilns were excavated at this site; they are semi-underground in structure, 4.7 m long and 2.3 m wide, broad at the bottom and narrowing towards the top. Grey-black earthenware fragments were found, along with ceramics of various uses and shapes. Production activity appears to have been centred mainly on the first half of the 10th century. The kiln site in Gurim-ri, Yeongam, dates from the transitional period between Unified Silla and Goryeo. It is highly significant for its semi-underground kiln structure with a single firing chamber, and for the advanced character of its ceramic fragments. Note: the name was changed from Yeongam Gurimni Togi Yoji to Kiln Site in Gurim-ri, Yeongam (announced 28 July 2011).
