Odusanseong Fortress, Paju
파주 오두산성 · 坡州 烏頭山城

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis is a Baekje fortress, 620m in length, encircling the summit of Odusan Mountain. The terrain is steep, with the Imjingang River to the west, the Hangang River to the south, farmland to the east, and mountains continuing to the north. The fortress wall survives best near the western side. In its construction, the outer face was built by setting stones progressively further inward as the wall rose, while the interior was filled with stone. This form of construction is highly important material for the study of Baekje fortress architecture. It has been argued that Gwanmiseong, mentioned in the stele of King Gwanggaeto the Great and in the Baekje Annals of the Samguk sagi, is in fact this very Odusanseong Fortress, and the claim has drawn further attention because Kim Jeong-ho's Daedong yeojido (Map of Korea) records this site under the name Gwanmiseong.
