Dongsa Temple Site lies in a basin from which Namhansanseong Fortress and Iseongsanseong Fortress can be seen to the northeast, and excavation revealed the remains of a main hall (geumdang) site and four other building sites. The geumdang, the hall enshrining the Buddha, was a very large building at the time, and inside it the Buddha was enshrined on an octagonal pedestal 5.1 m in diameter. Finds include gilt-bronze Buddha statues, roof tiles, ceramics and bronze ritual vessels, and a roof tile inscribed with the characters 桐寺 ('Dongsa') revealed that this had been the temple's name. Two stone pagodas (Treasures) still stand within the temple site. The temple was built sometime between the Later Three Kingdoms period and the early Goryeo period; it was a grand and massive temple that survived into the early Joseon period before apparently falling into ruin.
