Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis is the tomb of Lady Yi, known as Anbin (1622-1693), a royal concubine of King Hyojong (r. 1649-1659), the seventeenth king of Joseon. When Grand Prince Bongrim, later King Hyojong, was taken to Qing China as a hostage during the Manchu invasion of 1636, Lady Yi is said to have followed him all the way to Shenyang to attend him. After Hyojong took the throne she became his concubine, and in 1686, the twelfth year of King Sukjong, she was invested with the title Anbin. She bore Hyojong a daughter, Princess Suknyeong. The tomb is furnished with a stone statue of a civil official, a pillar, a stone lantern, an offering table and a tombstone; the front of the tombstone bears an inscription reading, in translation, 'Tomb of Lady Yi of Gyeongju, Anbin of the Kingdom of Joseon.' The Tomb of Queen Consort Anbin, Namyangju, is kept closed to the public in order to preserve the site in its original condition and prevent damage. Visitors wishing to view it for academic research or similar purposes must first obtain permission from the Sareung Royal Tomb office of the Eastern District Office for the Management of Joseon Royal Tombs (031-573-8124).
