This is the tomb of Lady Kim, known as Yeongbin (1669-1735), a royal concubine of King Sukjong, the nineteenth king of Joseon. Yeongbin was the daughter of Kim Chang-guk; in 1686, the twelfth year of King Sukjong, she became a royal concubine and was granted the rank of Guiin, a senior first-grade rank among the women of the royal household. In 1689, the fifteenth year of King Sukjong, she was deposed as a result of the Gisa hwanguk, a political upheaval in which the Westerners faction was replaced in power by the Southerners faction over the question of naming as heir the son born to Royal Noble Consort Hui, Lady Jang. She was later reinstated when the Gapsul hwanguk took place in 1694, the twentieth year of King Sukjong, a political upheaval in which the Southerners were in turn replaced by the Westerners over the reinstatement of Queen Inhyeon. In 1702, the twenty-eighth year of King Sukjong, she was invested with the title Yeongbin. The tomb has a stone statue of a civil official, a stone lantern, a pillar and a tombstone; the tombstone bears an inscription reading, in translation, 'Tomb of Yeongbin, Lady Kim of Andong, of the Joseon Kingdom under the Great Ming.' The Tomb of Queen Consort Yeongbin, Namyangju, is kept closed to the public in order to preserve the site in its original condition and prevent damage. Visitors wishing to view it for academic research or similar purposes must first obtain permission from the site management office (031-527-7105).
