This shrine enshrines Chungmugong Yi Sun-sin, Uimingong Yi Eok-gi, and Chunghyeongong An Hong-guk. Chungmugong Yi Sun-sin (1545-1598) defeated Japanese forces in naval battles at Mokpo, Noryang, Dangpo, Hansando, Busanpo and Myeongnyang during the Japanese invasions of Korea (Imjin waeran), protecting the nation's seas. In 1598, the thirty-first year of King Seonjo, he was struck by an enemy bullet and killed while pursuing retreating Japanese forces at Noryang. He was also gifted as a writer, leaving behind such outstanding works as the Nanjung ilgi (War Diary), and the sijo poems he composed on the battlefield are counted among the finest works expressing love of country. Uimingong Yi Eok-gi (1561-1597) fought alongside General Yi Sun-sin during the Japanese invasions, winning major victories over the Japanese at Danghangpo, Hansando, Angolpo and Busanpo. When General Yi Sun-sin was imprisoned, he joined Yi Hang-bok and Kim Myeong-won in arguing for his innocence, and he was killed in action at the Battle of Chilcheollyang in 1597, the thirtieth year of King Seonjo, during the Second Japanese Invasion (Jeongyu jaeran). Chunghyeongong An Hong-guk (?-1597) accompanied the king to Uiju during the Japanese invasions and achieved great merit serving under General Yi Sun-sin. He went on to win a major victory in the naval battle at Angolpo during the Second Japanese Invasion, where he was killed in action. This shrine was built in 1601, the thirty-fourth year of King Seonjo, to honour the loyalty of the three generals who served the nation, at the request of Chief State Councillor Yi Hang-bok, by Naval Commander Yi Si-eon. It was abolished in 1868, the fifth year of Emperor Gojong, under the order closing private Confucian academies, and was rebuilt in 1873, the tenth year of Emperor Gojong, making it a site of great significance to this day.
