This refers to Jamdubong Peak, a holy site of the Korean Catholic Church, and the site of Yanghwanaru Ferry Dock that once stood nearby. Jamdubong takes its name from the peak's resemblance to a silkworm's head. In 1966 the Catholic Church built a cathedral and a memorial hall centred on Jamdubong and landscaped the surrounding area as a park. Inside the cathedral and memorial hall are relics of late-Joseon scholars associated with Catholicism, including Yi Byeok, Yi Ga-hwan and Jeong Yak-yong, while the plaza holds statues of Kim Dae-geon and Nam Jong-sam together with a monument to the historic site. Yanghwanaru Ferry Dock, which stood around Jamdubong, was designated as an additional site after Jamdubong itself had already been designated a Historic Site. Nothing of its original form survives today, but in the Joseon period it was a key transport hub that played an important role in distributing grain and in military affairs. It is a valuable site offering a glimpse of the many traces left by the historical currents of the late Joseon period. The official name was changed from "Yanghwanaru and Jamdubong Historic Site" to "Historic Sites of Yanghwanaru Ferry Dock and Jamdubong Peak, Seoul" on 28 July 2011.
