An ipseok, or standing stone, is a large upright rock also called a seondol (menhir); such stones are often found in areas with dolmens. At Jincheon-dong, a square stone platform was built around the menhir, and it is presumed that rituals were once held in front of it. Several dolmens remain in the area around the menhir. Although the surrounding neighbourhood has become built up with housing, the area around the menhir has been excavated and maintained to preserve the site. Through the relationship and functional character shared by dolmens and menhirs, this site offers valuable material for the study of ancient culture.
