General Kim Yu-sin, who played a crucial role in Silla's unification of the Three Kingdoms, was born here, and this is also the site of his placenta chamber, a taesil, the traditional resting place for the umbilical cord kept after a child's birth. The birthplace is where Kim Seo-hyeon, Kim Yu-sin's father, carried out his official duties after being appointed governor of Manno-gun. Kim Yu-sin's placenta chamber stands at the summit of Taeryeongsanseong Fortress. Natural stones were piled into a round base and a stone wall built around it to mark the site as sacred. It takes the form of a circular, three-tiered stone structure covered with earth to form a mound, the oldest surviving type of placenta chamber in Korea. Taeryeongsanseong Fortress, behind the birthplace, takes the form of a stone wall enclosing the placenta chamber, and offers a glimpse of the fortress-building techniques of ancient Silla.
