Ancient Tombs in Neungangol, Buyeo

This is a Baekje burial ground east of the Neungsan-ri Tomb Cluster in Buyeo. A survey conducted between 1995 and 1996 identified around thirty tunnel-entrance stone-chamber tombs, some twenty stone-lined pit tombs, and four jar-coffin burials. Burials took various forms, including single interments, joint burials and children's graves, and yielded numerous artefacts, among them silk fabrics of the types called ju and sa, gold earrings, silver crown ornaments, and belt-pendant fittings. On the basis of the tomb types and the artefacts recovered, the tombs are thought to belong to the Baekje aristocracy of around the sixth to seventh centuries, and they provide important material for the study of late Baekje tomb forms and costume.
