Ganghwa Anglican Church is a two-storey building in Korean traditional style, built on 15 November 1900, measuring ten kan (a traditional unit of length equal to the span between two adjacent pillars) from east to west and four kan from north to south. The church follows the spatial arrangement of a Western basilica-style church, but its structural frame is distinctively Korean, built with timber framework and a tiled roof. This shows that adapting the structure and exterior to Korean traditional architectural style was used as a means of easing resistance to a foreign religion. Ganghwa Anglican Church places its entrance gate on the west side, following Western form, while overall it is modelled on the shape of a ship: at the bow, on the west, stand the outer and inner triple gates and a bronze bell, and the sanctuary itself occupies the centre. The rectory is placed at the stern, an unusual arrangement, and the building is a valuable resource for the study of Korean architectural history.
