The Main Building of the Former Daegu College of Medicine (now the main building of the Kyungpook National University College of Medicine) was built during the Japanese colonial period to train medical practitioners for the Daegu region, opening in 1933 as the public Daegu College of Medicine. This building stands facing the Former Daegu Provincial Hospital, a historic site now serving as the main building of Kyungpook National University Hospital. It is a three-storey brick building facing south, with a four-storey square turret at the centre of the front facade and a rooftop tower above. The plan is shaped like the Chinese character 山 (mountain), with a double-loaded corridor, and it is symmetrical about the entrance porch. Distinctive features of the exterior include the curved treatment of the projecting glass wall at the centre of the front facade and the horizontal cornice bands on the piers between the windows and on the rooftop parapet, which emphasise frontality, while the square rooftop turret and the vertical walls between the windows emphasise verticality. Overall, the building conveys a sense of stability and grandeur. It is an important building that well illustrates the history of modern medical education in Korea. It is very well preserved overall, with meticulous overall and detailed composition, and as a building of a very high architectural standard it holds great value not only in the architectural history of modern Korea but also in the history of education.
