구미 황상동 고분군 · 龜尾 凰顙洞 古墳群

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krLocated in Hwangsang-dong, Gumi, this Three Kingdoms period tomb complex lies on the southern slope of the hills that enclose the north side of Indong-dong, with the Nakdonggang River flowing 2 km to the west. The tombs are distributed along the upper part of a ridge running southward and on its rather steep slopes; the large tombs are mainly situated at the top of the ridge, while the small and medium-sized tombs are spread across the steeper slopes further down. It is one of the principal tomb complexes of the northern Gyeongsangbuk-do region, built during the fourth to sixth centuries, when Silla was establishing itself as an ancient state. Three rounds of excavation since 1962, together with one precision surface survey, have identified 271 mounded tombs, including 28 large tombs among 59 wooden-chamber tombs, 90 stone-lined tombs, 2 pit tombs and 1 stone-chamber tomb. The excavated relics number around 2,000 in total, including gold earrings, 345 items of pottery and 78 items of ironware. The site is valued as an important source for illuminating the Three Kingdoms period history and culture of this region.
