The Changnyeong Bibong-ri shell mound is the first Neolithic shell midden discovered inland in Korea. Excavations here have yielded Korea's oldest known prehistoric boat, a mangtaegi, a net bag showing Neolithic weaving techniques, and large-scale acorn storage facilities, confirming the site as important material for the study of the Neolithic period. The site was discovered during the construction of a drainage pumping station, which is now being remodelled into an exhibition hall.
