Founded in 1605 by local scholars for Kim Goeng-pil, and a textbook example of the plan the seowon settled into: lecture hall in front, shrine behind, the ground stepping up between them. The thing people photograph is the boundary. The rammed-earth wall is built in courses with roof tile and stone set into it, producing a running pattern that is half structure and half decoration. It is designated a Treasure separately from the buildings it encloses, which is unusual — walls are normally counted as part of what they surround. The lecture hall and shrine carry bracket sets worth a look if you have been seeing a lot of Joseon timber and want to compare. Out front stand a memorial stele and a ginkgo old enough to be part of the designation.
