The Sammakgol tomb cluster in Bojeong-dong, Yongin, is a site formed from the late 6th century, after Silla advanced into the Hangang River basin, until the 9th century. Among the Silla tomb clusters identified north of the Chungcheong region, it spans the longest period of use, giving it very great academic value. Among the Silla tomb clusters in the Chungcheong and Gyeonggi regions, it is comparable to the Nuam-ri Tomb Cluster in Chungju and the Maeryong-ri Tomb Cluster in Yeoju. Excavations to date have shown that the remains are well preserved and that numerous artefacts have been unearthed, giving the site outstanding historical and academic value. Note: The site's official name was changed from Yongin Bojeong-dong Gobungun to Ancient Tombs in Bojeong-dong, Yongin, by notification on 28 July 2011.
