Sansu-ri Kiln Site in Jincheon is not only the oldest excavated pottery kiln site in Korea, but its distinctive kiln structure and good state of preservation also make it an important site for studying the structure of pottery kilns from the Proto-Three Kingdoms period through the Three Kingdoms period, the development of pottery over that time, and comparative research on pottery kilns in Korea, China and Japan; for these reasons it has been designated and preserved as a Historic Site. Samyong-ri Kiln Site in Jincheon, excavated over four seasons between 1986 and 1990, has been assessed as an important site confirmed to be a large kiln complex that produced paddle-patterned pottery during Korea's Proto-Three Kingdoms period. Sansu-ri Kiln Site was designated a Historic Site on 27 February 1988, and Samyong-ri Kiln Site was designated a Historic Site on 26 February 1991; on 28 July 2011 the two were combined and redesignated as the single Historic Site "Kiln Sites in Sansu-ri and Samyong-ri, Jincheon".
